TSL Ventures
Our understanding of the molecular interactions between plants and microbes carries exciting potential for biotechnological applications.
The TSL Ventures program inspires our scientists to connect fundamental research to innovative applications and supports the in-house development of new spin-out companies.
Entrepreneur-in-Residence
We've established an Entrepreneur-in-Residence Programme to embed commercially-driven scientists into our research institute who are tasked with developing and following new ideas developed in TSL and associated research groups.
Our Entrepreneurs-in-Residence
Our Venture activities
ResurrectBio is a London-based spinout from TSL.
Norfolk Plant Sciences is a spinout from TSL and the John Innes Centre, of which Norfolk Healthy Produce is the US-based commercial entity.
BioPotatoes is tasked with bringing TSL's late blight resistant potatoes to the UK market.
GetGenome is a charitable organisation founded and hosted by TSL.
NELARIX and SAP-ERASER are exploring biotech applications in plant health and human therapeutics.
A little bit of background
An original aim of establishing The Sainsbury Laboratory in 1988 was to ensure that discoveries made within the science groups would lead to beneficial agronomic applications. David Baulcombe's discovery of RNA interference at TSL in the early 90s led to exciting applications in plant-based pharmaceutical production, revealing that the impact of our fundamental discoveries has the potential to extend far beyond our expectations.
