Senior Laboratory Technician – Plant Immunity Research

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with the Cyril Zipfel group and contribute to fundamental research on plant immunity.

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Zipfel Lab at The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) in Norwich (UK). This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to fundamental research on plant immunity, contributing towards TSL’s mission to understand the molecular basis of plant-microbe interactions and its application to crops.

Role Overview:

You will work closely with a dynamic team conducting molecular biology experiments, including genotyping, western blotting, and molecular cloning, as well as assisting with plant care and biological assays. The role also involves contributing to the day-to-day management of the laboratory and supporting the team’s research objectives. Responsibilities and independence will be tailored to your experience, with opportunities for skill development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and western blotting.

• Assist in plant care and experimental setup for biological assays.

• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results.

• Support general lab organisation.

Requirements:

• A degree (BSc., MSc., or PhD) in a life science-related field or equivalent experience.

• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques and enthusiasm for learning new skills.

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

• Commitment to maintaining high standards in record-keeping and lab practices.

Salary will be within the UEA Technical Grade 6 £30,505-£40,247 and will depend on qualifications, knowledge and skills. More experienced and qualified applicants may be eligible for a visa, using the Skilled Worker category.

This is initially being offered as a one year contract.
