Predoctoral internship – Plant Immunity Research

Join the Cyril Zipfel group in a role designed for students considering PhD studies in the future or ‘year-in-industry’ undergraduates with an interest in academic plant science research.

We are excited to invite applications for a highly motivated predoctoral intern to join the Zipfel group at The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) in Norwich (UK). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on plant immunity as part of TSL's mission to understand the molecular basis of plant-microbe interactions and its application to crops.

Role Overview:

This role is designed for students who are considering PhD studies in the future or ‘year-in-industry’ undergraduates with an interest in academic plant science research.

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with postdoctoral researchers to apply and learn molecular biology techniques.
  • Gain hands-on experience conducting molecular biology experiments- contributing to the research output of the lab.
  • Develop skills in troubleshooting and independent research project management.

By the end of this internship, you will be proficient in techniques like genotyping, molecular cloning, western blotting, plant care, and plant biological assays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and western blotting.
  • Assist in plant care and experimental setup.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results.

Requirements:

We are looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a BSc. or MSc. in a life science-related field.
  • A strong theoretical understanding of molecular biology techniques (practical experience is a plus).
  • Enthusiastic about learning new skills and committed to high standards in lab work.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Salary will be within the UEA Technical Grade 3 Spine Point 10 - £23,114 some applicants may be eligible for a visa, this will be reviewed on an individual basis.

This is initially being offered as a one year contract.
