MSc in Global Plant Health

  • Published:

The Sainsbury Laboratory proudly launches its one-year taught MSc in Global Plant Health. We look forward to welcoming the best students from around the world in September 2021.

This MSc focusses on integrated solutions to emerging plant pathogens. These are rooted in the science of molecular plant-microbe interactions, plant immunity, microbial pathogenesis and data science, together with leadership and management skills.

This MSc employs innovative teaching methods that encourage active and independent learning, rather than resting on solely traditional lectures. Learning is deepened by working in a team on a scenario-based research project.

The MSc students will be taught by TSL’s world-leading Group Leaders, other members of TSL and international guest speakers involved in global plant health. They will have their own study area in our building and be integrated in the diverse TSL research community.

By completing this MSc, the students will ultimately be equipped with the skills and attributes for a career in research, agribiotechnology, or policy making in diverse national and international organisations involved in managing and responding to plant disease.

Students unable to cover the full cost of their studies who come from a lower-income country, will be considered for one of our prestigious David Sainsbury International MSc Scholarships in Global Plant Health on a competitive basis.

Professor Nick Talbot FRS, Executive Director of TSL, said “We are offering a unique MSc experience at TSL. The course provides not only state-of-the-art understanding of plant immunity, but also the opportunity to acquire the very diverse skills necessary to respond to global plant health challenges.”

Students will register for their degree at the University of East Anglia (UEA) through the School of Biological Sciences.
